Horror Trailer Analysis/Conventions

Trailers are the main contributor towards films advertisement; they are a short summary of a film including really footage, but cleverly edited to create cliffhangers etc to keep the viewer wanting more leading to them watching the film on release.

Would You Rather

This is a film about a young woman called Iris who is desperate to help her little brother, who is suffering from leukaemia, but she cannot afford the treatment. She is offered to enter a game by a man called Shepard Lambrick, he offers to pay for the treatment as her prize, unaware of what she was really getting herself into. Iris, along with the other eight contestant, arrive at the Lambrick’s manor where they are seated for dinner, after they have eaten the game begins. Lambrick announces the game and its rules and the victims start to realize its to normal game of would you rather...

We have chosen this film/trailer as it is similar to our films plot. Like ‘The Last Judgement’ this film is uses some sort of leverage, cash incentive, to sway people into all arriving at the same destination to allow the plot to work.

Also the film surrounds a rich, well-spoken aristocrat who plots to get a group of people to his home to mutilate them.

V for Vendetta

In a future British dictatorship, a mysterious freedom fighter, known a V, plots to overthrow the government with the help of a young woman.

I feel the film works well with our plot as the main protagonist is fighting for what he feels is right, and for justice. Like Dr Peers who is trying to get his on justice on the people who falsely imprisoned him.

Two detectives, a rookie and a veteran are on the hunt for serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his modus operandi.

Se7en works well with our story as it’s about using the seven deadly sins as a reason for the villain to kill off his victims. Like this our film has biblical aspects within.

Also the film is a thriller which works well with our film is it’s to do with justice.

All the trailers I have selected have a good use of suspense creating music. They also all set the scene early on and you are introduced to leading roles so you can relate.
