Audiences In The Woman In Black

Who do you think the primary and secondary target audience is for The Woman in Black? Why?
The primary audience for the woman in black are the fans of the Harry Potter films as they are both staring Daniel Radcliffe and followers of harry potter will like to see how he has progressed as an actor. Radcliffe is on every poster and the main focus of all advertisement in the built up before realise to appeal to a wider audience.
The secondary audience for the film would be those who have read the book , other Susan Hill novels or those who have seen the theatre play.  Also as its advertised as horror fan of this genre will also be interested.
How was The Woman in Black marketed? (Think about genre(s), subgenre(s), media platforms, target audience, promotions, size of campaign, etc.).
The woman in black has generated most of its profit and is so highly acclaimed through Daniel Radcliffe’s Marketing. Leading up to the films realise he featured on many talk shows, radio stations and social media to push the film. The film was advertised to appeal to a huge variety of people, social media advertisement and age certificate lead to a large youth following. But also it was well received by older demographic due to the heritage surrounding the title. There were also huge give aways where people could win books and copies of the DVD to help advertisement.
Do you think the marketing materials for the film were appropriate? Why?
Yes, I feel that the marketing materials used for woman in black were extremely appropriate, but for such a big budgeted film it’s to be expected. Daniel Radcliffe was the main focal point of advertisement as he appeals to wide audience and was able to convey the message.  Also the website was very official and all other aspects of marketing were clean, professional and kept to a consistent house style.
What kind of release did the film have? (Big/small? How many cinemas showed the film on its release?)
Opening weekend of realiseit was shown in 3,267 screens in the USA and UK alone and made $25,812,412. It has since been released in 38 countries after its release in Feb 2012, and has accumulated a massive $127.7 million so far.
How much did The Woman in Black cost to make? (Production budget) AND what was the industry impact of The Woman in Black? (Think box office and trends).
The women in black had a budget of $15million, which almost double being made back in the opening weekend of realise which illustrates who successful it was. It also let to people spending more money of the franchise, so people brought the book, and viewed it in the theatre .
Why do you think the film was so successful? (You must come up with at least two reasons).
Yes, the fact that the film was only a 12A certificate rating  lead to huge success as a younger audience could enjoy  it with the family, but also it appealed to older upper  class audiences could enjoy. Not only this but the money spent on marketing caused massive popularity.
